Wow, time has passed me by a little, or a lot. Having come out of retirement, not in a sad boxer comeback type of way but in a plans change a little way. Am enjoying it but it has eaten into my time for hobbies. I find my time evapourates, but i have now renewed vigour and made time for things centered on me. As part of that i got my hideous gold wheels media blasted by SKS Coatings, in Elgin, and a fine job they did removing the gold coating and leaving the wheels in raw alloy.
As you can see, the gold finish was not only 'of its time, but was particularly poor as well. At this point i must also shout out Mr Moto of of Forres, a most excellent man and establishment. He took my tyres of the rims for 7.50 a wheel, very reasonabe indeed, and he has a fine workshop, sales and spares set up too. Anyways, back to the wheels, i did forget to take a picture of them blsted before i taped them, It was decided that the best design would be stock, so satin black and alloy it was. Let the masking begin, a tedious and soul sapping process, but it was done, with teh thought i can always use some wire wool to tidy up the whole piece post painting. The taping was a little agricultural in places but it is all trimmed with the precision of a boutique Brazillian wax for posh spice. The end result will show whether the juice was worth the squeeze.
The a can of Simoniz primer, ironically, purchased from Prime, was used. I again have to shout out to Barry, the father-in-law, to allow me to use his garage to spray as the long haired colonel here forbad me making smells in our garage. So the primer has been applied:
I have departed from Barry's now, will let the primer dry for 24 hours before I set to with the Satin Black. I have said to the pop-in-law he can finish the spraying if he has the desire to , if not i will get to it thuis week.
Oh, bt-dubs - i elected to paint the wheels ratehr than powder coat them due to the alloy / paint design and, as with al things - cost was a factor. But the finish should justify the the thrifty considered decision.
Pictures will follow with, finished without discs, discs fitted and finally with the rubber restored. Will then assemble the front end with brakes and grips etc and start the rear, i do need to visit SKS ahain for some more blasting, but that will be post engine removal and a few frame modifications. Speaking of which - remember the title, especially the part 'THINGS I WISH I HAD KEPT'......Well i di wish i had kept the rear sub frame i that was removed. I was too quick to get it into the recycling.
Now i have to fabricate a partial rear subframe, instead of just welding the origional part back in its propper place. I still need to locate some shocks as well. Things too do and places to be.
Laters AMF!
